This project involves the construction of a 400 – seater Concert Hall for the Irish Institute of Music & Song in Balbriggan, Co. Dublin. The stage area, including its fully automated mechanical system with dual spiral drives to adjust both in height & in plan area, is contained within a grade 3 in-situ concrete basement. The building main frame is a mix of structural steel with SFS infill panels. External facades are predominantly granite with large bespoke curtain walling units.
Stephen Foley Architects, in conjunction with AWN Consulting, have provided a full acoustic design for this new state of the art concert hall. From an acoustic perspective, every surface has been considered & optimised. The acoustic finishes include large areas of various bespoke sound diffusing treatments, including high quality oak sound diffusing panels at low level and low frequency sound diffusing treatments to the upper walls & ceilings. The design also includes a variable acoustic system whereby acoustic banners can be deployed into the main hall to dramatically reduce reverberance when needed.
The design features extensive lighting systems to cater for a mix of performers.
The development also includes a number of music teaching rooms together with ancillary break-out areas for both performers & Students.
• Full air-conditioning system to each seat to cater for guest’s comfort.
• Rigorous acoustic design to cater for a diverse range of events.
• Extensive design development pre-award & pre-construction.
