Vision Contracting wins Irish Construction Excellence Fit-Out (Under €10m) Award for Fexco Innovation Centre and RDI Hub
March 3, 2022
At the annual Irish Construction Excellence (ICE) Awards 2022, which took place at the National Convention Centre, Dublin, on Saturday, 14 May, Vision Contracting’s cutting edge fit-out of the Fexco Innovation Centre and RDI Hub in Killorglin, Co Kerry, won the top prize in the highly competitive “Fit Out or Refurbishment Under €10m” category, having been shortlisted with three other top projects from across the country.
This is the first time Vision Contracting has been nominated and won an ICE Award. The project team is particularly delighted, considering the complexity of the project and the level of collaboration that went into its completion.
Aidan Drummond, Project Director, Vision Contracting, commented: “The project brought out the best in all involved, particularly the many skilled professionals, tradespeople and construction workers from the region that were engaged across it.
“The completed building exemplifies what can be achieved when there are free-flowing communications and community engagement, and each team member is personally invested in a project’s success. Early contractor involvement, clear lines of communication and having well-resourced subcontractors working collaboratively also contributed greatly. A huge thank you to all the team for their hard work.”
Scope of the works
The project comprised the turn-key fit-out of a three-storey, 5,400-sq-metre vacant steel frame industrial building under two contracts. The Fexco Innovation Centre was a private contract for Fexco Unlimited Company. The RDI Hub Innovation and Digitization Project was a public-private endeavour between Fexco, MTU (IT Tralee) and Kerry County Council to promote innovation, development and start-ups within the fintech sector. The Fexco brief called for office spaces that would introduce new ways of working and encourage collaboration and innovation, while the RDI Hub brief included a menu of different space types that facilitated collaboration, innovation and growth.
Vision Contracting completed the projects simultaneously on a fast-track phased basis.
Aidan Drummond added his gratitude to the judges and the ICE awards team, “I would like to thank the judges for what can’t have been an easy task to choose a winner from the excellent shortlist. And, I would also like to acknowledge the incredible work done by the ICE awards team in putting together such an excellent competition and event. It was great to get the opportunity to meet with old friends whom we have not seen in so long due to Covid-19.”
